When I started Rising Vibes, I started it with the intention of spreading Entertainment News only. But as time went on, I deviated into sports, games, politics, product reviews, even invited guest posts from other niches such as crowdfunding. And I can tell you, it hasn’t affected the blog in any way, instead, the traffic to the blog has tripled! Because it is diversifying into other fields of interest.

Feel free to experiment with a few topics, and see what best matches your interests and passions.

How To Buy A Domain Name For Blogging In Nigeria: What Is A Domain Name And How To Get One For Your Blog In Nigeria

Whenever I get to start something new, figuring out a domain name is always fun to do. You want to make sure the domain name is “MAD” and appealing to hear. I felt this way too when I started my entertainment blog – Rising Vibes Nigeria

However, most common ideas that come to your head are already taken, which means you have to be much more creative with your choice.

How To Buy A Domain Name For Blogging In Nigeria: What Is A Domain Name Anyway?

A domain name is also referred to as the web address of your blog. It is a unique identifier of your blog or website on the web. Just like every human has a name or unique means of identification, so does every blog that is set up on the web.

It is like a unique address that directs people to the exact location of your blog on the web. Just as the domain name of this blog is www.ayomidejohnson.com, it is the only domain that leads to this website and nowhere else. It is absolutely unique to this website.

How To Buy A Domain Name For Blogging In Nigeria: What Are Domain Extensions?

Today, there are so many domain extensions to choose from, if not hundreds. An extension is what ends a domain, such as .com or .com.ng or .org and so on.

A good example is this website. The extension ending the domain of this website is “.com”

It doesn’t have to be your full name but it can be something people know you as, something people can easily identify to you.
  • #TIP 2 – HOW TO PURCHASE A DOMAIN NAME IN NIGERIA: Make your domain name short, easy to remember and type. It’s important. You don’t want people mistakenly getting into other websites when trying to visit yours.
  • #TIP 3 – HOW TO PURCHASE A DOMAIN NAME IN NIGERIA: Make your domain name pronounceable. There’s no need to confuse people with complicated spellings, or creative misspellingsMake your domain name as readable as possible.

What Is A Web Hosting And How To Get One For Your Blog In Nigeria

An online Web hosting is a service that allows your blog to be accessed through the internet by other users.
how hosting works

Without a domain and web hosting, your blog won’t be seen online or get any traffic from people. The two are inseparable! There are plenty of web hosting companies in Nigeria to choose from. The starting price for web hosting in Nigeria starts from ₦3000 per year.

Anything less than that unless it’s a promo is very low quality and it will give you a lot of issues eventually.

Again, I highly recommend SmartWeb. They are very efficient and well known. Offering hosting packages from ₦300. Yes, not an error! ₦300 (Three Hundred Naira). But that is on a monthly basis.

It’s good choice if you don’t have a big budget yet and just want to test out their service. So Instead of going for the yearly plan, you could easily opt-in for the monthly plan, which starts from as low as ₦300 per month.

Feel free to check them out, and purchase your domain name and hosting so you can start building your blog in Nigeria now.

STILL, If you need help with purchasing your domain name and hosting, feel free to contact me! I will be glad to help.

WordPress vs Blogger – What’s The Right Choice For Blogging In Nigeria

This topic has been a really controversial piece amongst individuals of interest, and even after so many arguments, a standpoint hasn’t really been taken.
Team WordPress have their favorites, Team Blogger got theirs too.

For most people who already have their blogs set up, this isn’t usually much of their business – because they are into their platforms already and there wouldn’t be much use arguing when it would even be ‘website-breaking’ and quite a terrible experience to migrate their blogs at such a stage.

Most people involved in this trivia of trying to pick out the best blogging platform between WordPress & Blogger are those who are new to blogging or don’t even have a blog online, yet.
If you are in this category, I am always glad to say that it is never too late to start blogging in Nigeria and starting a blog in 2020 and beyond is easier than it has ever been. You can even start a blog right from your mobile phone.

At points like this for newbies, picking a platform to build a blog on is always the hardest decision – that is choosing between WordPress and Blogger.
I once had to make that decision too.

Blogger, owned by Google is a dedicated blogging platform and WordPress, though originally built for blogging has turned out to be a full content management system (CMS) for building high-end websites as well.

In this article, I will introduce you to these powerful tools – WordPress & Blogger, I will explain how they work, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each which will help you make the right choice as to which platform will suit your needs.
Let’s get on with this!

How To Start a Blog That Makes Money In Nigeria: Introduction to Blogger

The Blogger website.

Firstly, let’s look at Blogger. Blogger is owned by Google – and it was made to help writers get up and running easily with a blog of their own.
All that needs to be done is to create a new Blogger profile (This will require a Google Account). Then you can build a new or even several blogs under the same account right away.
Creating a new blog with Blogger.
Blogger makes it very easy for you to choose from a wide collection of themes which determines how your blog will appear in mobile, tablet and desktop devices.
In some cases, you can hand-code your theme though (For advanced users)
You can also set and choose a URL for your Blog – which will have “blogspot.com” added to the end (something like http://myfirstblog.blogspot.com). To have a custom domain name, you need to subscribe to a hosting package and purchase a domain name to run on it.

Here is the Blogger Dashboard – All existing and newly created profiles should have this.
The Blogger dashboard.
Within this dashboard, you will be able to create new blog posts, add pages to your blog – like contact pages, about pages and privacy policy pages, control and respond to reader’s comments and perform all other blog related stuff.

How To Start a Blog That Makes Money In Nigeria: Introduction to WordPress

The WordPress website.
Now, we all know Blogger to be just for blogs. What about WordPress?
WordPress is a full-fledged CMS – Content Management System developed to help build content online on any page. This means you can use WordPress to create any kind of website, so it’s not just dedicated to blogging alone.

Like I stated at the start of this article, WordPress started out as a blogging platform, and just like Blogger, WordPress is free as well. Except that they don’t get to host your blog for you.
To run a Blog or website on WordPress, you need to subscribe to a hosting plan and purchase a domain name– where you can then install and set up your WordPress blog or website.

Once you do that successfully, you will have access to your WordPress admin dashboard.
blogger vs WordPress dashboard.

On WordPress, you can create posts and pages for your blog, edit several settings, add other users, and so much more.

WordPress is also customizable with several themes which determine how your blog or website appears on Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile devices.

Another awesome thing about WordPress is that you can extend your blog’s functionality by downloading and installing plugins – some plugins may be to create a contact form, or an SEO assistant, or even e-Commerce store plugins.

Please note that the WordPress I’m discussing about here is the self-hosted WordPress.org. You can learn more about the WordPress-hosted WordPress.com here.

How To Build a Blog In Nigeria: WordPress vs Blogger – The Pros & Cons

Pros of Blogger:
  • It’s very easy and quick to get started with.
  • It makes it easy to learn how to create content and use all the primary features right away.
  • You don’t need a hosting plan, it’s totally hosted by Blogger – so you got nothing to worry or pay for.
  • Even though Blogger is limited, there are several options for personalizing your blog.

Cons of Blogger:
  • Blogger’s functions are really basic – It spans beyond nothing more than creating a simple blog and posting content. You really can’t do much with it or extend it.
  • Appearance customization and features are very restricted, so is the potential for adding custom code of your own to extend the functionality.
  • You don’t fully “own” your content because it’s all sitting on Google’s servers (though you can export your content if needed).
As you can see, Blogger really levels up to the game when it comes to setting up a blog fast and easily. However, it doesn’t offer much help if you’d like to fully customize your blog.
Let’s take a look at WordPress.

Pros of WordPress:
  • Even though WordPress requires a whole lot of work to set up, setting up a WordPress blog is still a quick and painless way of starting a blog online. Especially if your hosting provider supports One Click WordPress Installs.
  • WordPress is quite easy to learn for a beginner. The platform is so beginner-friendly especially if you’re using it to create something simple like a blog.
  • WordPress is fully customizable. There are thousands of themes to change the appearance of your blog and thousands of plugins to further extend the functionality of your website. You can almost shape your website into anything you want.
  • If you are more of an advanced user, WordPress makes it very easy to add custom code to further extend your blog to your desired taste.

Cons of WordPress:
  • Building your blog or website on WordPress requires a monetary investment which is getting a domain name and hosting. You can check out my article on how to get the cheapest and reliable WordPress hosting. Although you can get free WordPress hosting at wordpress.com, it’s not recommended for any serious blogger or website.
  • The performance and security of your WordPress website is your full responsibility. If you do not have required technical knowledge on how to secure your WordPress website or blog, this can pose a lot of issues.
Now, looking at the Pros and Cons of each of these platforms, how do you decide which to choose?

How To Blog In Nigeria: How to choose between Blogger vs WordPress for Blogging in Nigeria

If you need a blog, in the simplest way, speed and fashion available, then Blogger is for you. Blogger has proved useful for those who want to create blogs and have it running immediately.
If you are more of a hobby blogger looking for a platform to express your words or activities, then Blogger may be for you. It’s all free and you don’t need to worry about security, hosting, and maintenance.

But if you are a real, full-time blogger, or maybe you are on the lookout for a blog for your business, company or something really serious and income based, I recommend WordPress. It is designed to be fast, beginner friendly, monetizable, customizable and fully extendable.

Here’s a quick summary of what you’ll need to know to make the right choice.
  1. Blogger: This is a free, easy to set up and beginner-friendly blogging platform powered by Google that will have you up and running in a very short time. However, your customization power is really limited.
  2. WordPress: This platform requires a little more time to set up and some finance too – that is the cost for your Web Hosting & Domain name. But ideally, it is still very easy for beginners to use. In fact, a large percentage of the web runs on WordPress. WordPress opens you to loads of customization options, and plugins to further extend the functionality of your website or blog.

To Install a WordPress Plugin:

Head over to “Plugins” from your admin Dashboard, then click “Add New” from the drop-out list.

So here is my opportunity to introduce you to my favorite, ElementorWith Elementor, you can build virtually anything!

In the search bar, type “Elementor“. The search results would get displayed.

There are several other plugins related to Elementor. These plugins help extend the power of Elementor to build even more beautiful things.

Plugins that help extend the power of another plugin are referred to as Add-ons.

Elementor would most likely show up as the first after you search, “Elementor Page Builder”. Click the Install Now button, afterward click “Activate“.

The same method applies to other plugins.

How To Increase Traffic To A Blog In Nigeria: Yoast SEO – How to set up SEO for your Blog in Nigeria

If you have probably installed Yoast in the past and just need guidance on how to use it, you can skip to the next step.

If you have never installed it for no reason whatsoever, then follow this guide.

STEP 1 – HOW TO INCREASE BLOG TRAFFIC IN NIGERIA: The first thing you should do is log into the backend of your WordPress website. WordPress websites are logged into using the following URL

Please note that you should replace “yourwebsite.com” with the name of your website. Once that is done, you should see this:

Wordpress login

STEP 2 – HOW TO INCREASE BLOG TRAFFIC IN NIGERIA: Logging in will take you straight to your admin dashboard. Move your mouse cursor to the “Plugins” section and click on it.

STEP 3 – HOW TO INCREASE BLOG TRAFFIC IN NIGERIA: Choose “Add New” from the drop-down menu that follows. That should take you to the WordPress plugin store. Type and search for “Yoast” in the search box. The results for Yoast will show up before you are done typing that.

STEP 4 – HOW TO INCREASE BLOG TRAFFIC IN NIGERIA: Click the “Install Now” button beside the Plugin. WordPress will handle the rest by downloading and installing the plugin. WordPress would request that you activate the plugin, please do that immediately. Once you go through these steps, you are good to get started.

If you go back to your admin dashboard, you will see Yoast as part of the items on the dashboard.

The next step is setting up Yoast SEO and preparing your website for Search Engine Optimization.

Configuring Yoast SEO

Click on SEO on your Dashboard; this will take you to Yoast SEO’s dashboard. This is where you will know if you have any major SEO issues or any notifications related to your website’s SEO.

We have to configure Yoast SEO settings first. We will do this through the configuration wizard. Click on General–>Configuration Wizard to open up the wizard.

Once you open it, you will be presented with two options; to configure Yoast yourself or pay for the team behind Yoast to configure it for you.

Why would you want to pay someone anyways when I’m teaching you right here? Let’s get going 🙂

The first set up is the environment of the blog. Yoast wants to know the current state of your blog. Select the appropriate option. Select “Production” if your blog is online already. Select “Development” if your blog is still running on a local development server (WAMP, XAMPP, LAMPP), but make sure you come back to re-configure Yoast after launching your website, else Google will not be able to crawl it. Yoast allows you to configure and re-configure your website as many times as possible.

The next configuration step is site type. Select the appropriate option that relates to your website.

Next step, Yoast wants to know if we are an individual or a company. In this case, as well, select the option that is best suited to your blog.

Next configuration step, Yoast asks for our social profiles. Add the most important and active ones or all if you wish.

The next configuration step walks you through your website’s visibility. Usually, Yoast has already ticked the best options for us. So if you don’t have any idea what to do here, you can easily just click Next. The best options are already ticked by default.

The next asks us if we have multiple authors. This means Yoast wants to know if two or more people will be writing for or editing the blog. Select as it applies to your blog. Then click next.

On the next step, Yoast wants to help us connect to Google Search Console.

Choose “Authenticate with Google”, it will open a new window for you to log in to your Google account. Afterwards, it will give you a code to enter in the Yoast authenticate box. But you need to have set up a Google Search Console first for your account. It’s free.
But you can still choose to skip this step anyways if you don’t have a search console account, although I still strongly recommend you get it. You can always come back to this step later.

The next configuration step is the Title Settings.

This is where you determine what variation of your website name appears in search results.

Enter your website name in the box, then select the preferred separator you want for your website. Anyone goes, but I use this “|” most of the time.

If you followed this, you have successfully finished setting up Yoast SEO for your website and your website is ready for SEO. Yoast will do the rest of the hard work in optimizing your website for you. All you have to do to start ranking high is to write high-quality blog posts that answer to the needs of your readers. Most bloggers in Nigeria see Yoast in action when publishing new posts regularly.

How To Make Money From Blogging In Nigeria – The Various Blog Monetization Options Available.

Running a blog in Nigeria is a good feeling but making money from that blog is a greater feeling. You don’t want to keep wasting money, time and resources blogging and yet making no yields from your investments. I make money in one way or the other from my blogs. From periodic banner ad requests to affiliate marketing.

In fact, for this guide, I would have loved to base on affiliate marketing alone because it’s the best paying option for me. But what works for me may not work for you, and you can probably make it even bigger with another form of monetization.

So, I will highlight the key and best paying monetization options available for bloggers in Nigeria. Here is a quick list of what we will look through.

  • Affiliate Marketing
  • CPA Marketing
  • Google Adsense – How I Got Approved On My First Application Within 3 days
  • Banner Ads
  • Google Adsense Alternatives in Nigeria
  • PopAds
  • Creating & Selling Courses
  • Selling Products & Services

How To Make Money From Blogging In  Nigeria: Affiliate Marketing

Maybe for some, perhaps not for most, but for me, affiliate marketing is by far one of the best ways you can make money from blogging in Nigeria. It’s as simple as writing about a particular product you love and when people purchase that product because of you, you get paid.

Some affiliate programs you can join in Nigeria are Jumia Affiliates, Konga Affiliates, Web Hosting Affiliate Programs. I earn more from web hosting affiliate programs as I write a lot on blogging and websites so I refer a lot of people to purchase their web hosting and domain names from these companies. If you notice somewhere around the start of this guide, I introduced you to some web hosting companies. That’s how I get paid (When you purchase through my links)

You just need to register on these platforms, get your unique referral link, start creating articles around their products and services and get paid when someone buys/signs up through you. For me, affiliate marketing is by far the most profitable way to make money blogging in Nigeria.

How To Make Money From Blogging In  Nigeria: CPA Marketing

CPA Marketing in simple terms is a process whereby you get paid for directing users to take a particular action on a particular platform of the website. E.g: Filling a form, adding to cart, etc. You get paid per action. CPA Means (Cost Per Action) so in real definitive terms, you are paid per action.

I have not done much of CPA, and I’m not in the position to say, “I know this shit”, so I will refer you to a master and someone I look up to in this field. He will tell you all you need to know. I’m doing this because CPA is a totally different field entirely so you need to know what it is and what it is not.

How To Make Money From Google Adsense In Nigeria – How I Got Approved On My First Application Within 3 days

If you are familiar with the whole concept of blogging in Nigeria, then somehow, somewhere, you have heard a thing or two about Google Adsense. Google Adsense is the primary means of monetization for most Nigerian bloggers.
From my assessment, you will find Google Adsense ads on at least 5 out of every 10 blogs in Nigeria.

How To Make Money Blogging In Nigeria: What Is Google Adsense?

Google Adsense is an advertising network owned by Google. They provide a medium where advertisers can promote their products and publishers can make money by promoting those products on their website. Getting started with Google Adsense in Nigeria is as easy as just registering for an Adsense account, copying and pasting your assigned snippet code on your website, then waiting for approval from Adsense so you can begin serving ads.

With Adsense, you get paid when your visitors view or click on any of the ads displayed on your blog. This is a CPC (Cost Per Click) or CPM (Cost Per Mile) also known as Cost per 1000 impressions model of earning on Google Adsense.

How To Easily Get Approved By Google Adsense In Nigeria – The Step By Step Process Of How I Got Approved Within 3 Days.

When I started out blogging, I also needed something to keep me going. I needed to know that I was also earning from the side as I dropped these articles and blog posts. Either random or big deal. So I had to start with Adsense. I had no other monetization options as of then as I just started out. The very first thing I did was

“I DID NOT APPLY FOR GOOGLE ADSENSE”

Yes! You read that correctly. I did not. And you should not apply yet because there are some things you want to put in place before applying. It can be very discouraging to get the rejection message so you have to do it right before even trying to apply for Google Adsense. So what did I do? Let’s learn from my experience.

Step 1 – How To Easily Get Approved By Google Adsense In Nigeria: I started creating Original Content
To get your blog on the winning side of getting approved by Adsense in Nigeria, you need to start creating content and populating your blog with posts. And by this, I don’t mean “copying and pasting” from other websites/blogs. Your content has to be unique. Something that has not been written or looks identical to something written by someone else.
Even if you are going to write another version of a particular post, make sure everything you are writing is totally your idea.
Repeat this as well for every other post you will be making on your blog. Let’s get on to step 2.

Step 2 – How To Easily Get Approved By Google Adsense In Nigeria: I kept on creating original content – for 6 months!
Yes, and I think that is a standard by Google Adsense to get you approved. They want a blog that has been around for a while, with original content and steady traffic. For the first 6 months, I just kept on posting. I didn’t worry about Adsense or any means of monetizing my blog.
For you, it might be 3 months, but I think the longer the better your chances.

Step 3 – How To Get Approved Easily By Google Adsense In Nigeria: I chose a premium theme and a responsive design for my blog
I have always been crazy about my design from the start. I have tried so many themes and designs on this blog just to make sure it’s user-friendly and mobile responsive across all platforms. And this is what Google looks out for as well.
So before applying for Google Adsense, make sure your blog runs on a premium and mobile responsive theme/design. This will greatly increase your chances.

Step 4 – How To Get Approved Easily By Google Adsense In Nigeria: I created some Extra Pages
And you have to do the same. Before Google approves your Adsense application, they want to know if there is an authentic presence behind your blog. They want to ensure you can be contacted, certain privacy rules are set up on your website and that your visitors are aware of the terms and regulations governing your blog as well.
So to cover this, I created an About Page, A Services Page, A Contact Page, A Privacy Policy Page, and A Terms Page.
These pages told Google more about me and helped quicken my application process.

Step 5 – How To Easily Get Approved By Google Adsense In Nigeria: I took down other advertisements on my website
I had some personal branded advertisements for my services on my website. Google hates it when other ads interfere with theirs. So I had to take them down before applying. This is to endure your blog is user-friendly and not cluttered with various types of ads from every source. I put them back up later after I was approved.

Step 6 – How To Easily Get Approved By Google Adsense In Nigeria: I applied! And yes I got approved within 3 days
I can’t remember how long it was, but I actually think it was less than that. But what matters is, I got approved.
Oh Yes, I still have my precious Adsense approval message. I got it in my email and that is where you will get yours as well.

How To Start A Blog That Makes Money In Nigeria – Monetizing Your Blog With Banner Ads

Another cool way of making money with your blog in Nigeria is by serving your own personalized banner ads. It may also be banner ads from individuals or companies who want to advertise their products/services.

Before companies will actually approach you to start making adverts on your blog, they will want to be sure you are getting enough steady traffic anyway. So to monetize and leverage on the advantages of this method, you need to put a lot of effort into marketing your blog.

How To Start A Blog That Makes Money In Nigeria – Google Adsense Alternatives In Nigeria

For some reason or the other, you may have challenges with Adsense or getting approved. It’s very common. And if not, you are just among the lucky ones. Many people have quit blogging because they feel Google Adsense is the only way. But it’s really not all about Google Adsense. There are so many other platforms in Nigeria that offer advertising and banner ads just like Google Adsense does and they also pay on a CPC and CPM basis.
Want to get rid of Google Adsense troubles today and start earning steadily from your blog in Nigeria? Then you need to know some of the Nigerian Advertising networks and it’s as simple as registering, creating your ad units, placing them on your website and starting your earning process.

How to Accept Online Payments on Your Blog In Nigeria

How do bloggers in Nigeria accept online payments on their blog?To accept online payments on your blog in Nigeria, you need a payment gateway and there are quite a lot of payment gateways to choose from.

Wait, don’t click buttons yet. Some of these payment gateways I mentioned may be difficult to use most especially if you live in Nigeria. They are good and efficient payment gateways and you can go your way to use them if you can, but I would not be discussing them in this article.

In this article, I would be introducing you to my one and a favorite payment for accepting payments in Nigeria. The Paystack payment gateway

How To Accept Online Payments In Nigeria: How to Accept Online Payments With Paystack

If you have never heard of Paystack, then you have now :).

Paystack is a startup that helps businesses easily process their online card payments, and what’s more they have a very flexible gateway which you can integrate into your website to start accepting online payments.

To start accepting online payments with Paystack, you need to:

STEP 1 – HOW TO ACCEPT ONLINE PAYMENTS IN NIGERIA: Register on Paystack.com

STEP 2 : Choose to operate as a Starter Business or Registered Business

STEP 3. Verify your identity by submitting the documents required of you.

STEP 4. Create payment pages and integrate with your website/blog.

STEP 5. Start accepting online card payments with Paystack.

HOW TO ACCEPT ONLINE PAYMENTS IN NIGERIA: Placing an order form or shopping cart onto your blog with Paystack

Apart from opting in with a payment gateway to receive card payments, there are other things involved; like setting up a shopping cart, order page or checkout form.

Before people can pay to order your product, they need to meet a page which shows details about the product, the price, how it will be shipped and many other things. After this page, comes the payment form which will be shown to your buyers; in which they will fill their card details.

You might be thinking of hiring a developer to help you create your checkout form or payment page. That’s a lot, I know right.

But the good news is, Paystack has made it very easy to integrate payment forms right from their website. So you need no coding knowledge, nor technical skill to start accepting card payments on your blog or website in Nigeria.

HOW TO ACCEPT ONLINE PAYMENTS ON YOUR BLOG IN NIGERIA: Registering on Paystack

First, you need to visit www.paystack.com in your browser, then register on the platform.

As a starter, I advise you to register as a “Starter Business”, else if you have company documents and registration documents, you can choose to register as a “Registered Business”.

Here are the advantages of registering as a Starter Business on Paystack:

  • You don’t need any hard-to-acquire company documents to start accepting payments
  • You only verify your business or personal business with your National I.D Card or Voters Card
  • You can use your personal account to receive your funds (No company account needed)

But as a starter business, there are some restrictions:

  • You can only receive a max of NGN 2,000,000 at a time. Once you get to that point, you will then be required to upgrade to a Registered Business.

But I guess NGN 2,000,000 is a great amount to start with as a small business.

Once you complete your registration as a Starter business, you will need to activate your account to start receiving payments. Like I mentioned above, Starter Businesses can easily activate their accounts with their National I.D Card or Voters Card.

If you don’t have any, go get your PVC
